Description
Retro/vintage wheelset with steel hubs and a coaster brake, built from new and used/refurbished parts.
The rear hub is an F&S / Sachs Torpedo Freilauf from 1964. Thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt with fresh grease and oil. The original brass brake cylinder has been replaced with an NOS example of the later steel model for more consistent braking performance over time. The hub axle is long enough to allow spacers or nuts to be added, so the rear wheel can be used in frames with rear dropouts up to approximately 120 mm wide. Standard sprockets, also used on Shimano, SRAM and Sturmey Archer internal-gear hubs, can be fitted. Snap ring, spacer ring, dust cap and two axle nuts/washers included.
The front wheel is built around a German Union steel hub from around the 1960s. The hub has been fitted with a new axle, bearing cones, balls and nuts.
The rims are NOS classic single-wall Alesa Alloy 622x17 Made In Belgium rims with minor storage scratches, polished until they are shiny.
Classic Continental whitewall tires and new inner tubes are fitted. The tires have a nominal width of 28 mm but are actually a couple of millimeters narrower.
The wheels are built with high-quality stainless steel spokes and nickel-plated brass nipples.
